Leh Cloudburst (Aug. 5, 2010)

An hour long rainfall of 250mm left a trail of death and debris as mud from the ranges surrounding Leh, in Ladakh, India, came cascading unchecked and with brutal force. It was midnight, and many were asleep and never woke up after.

At least 255 people were reported to have died, with 200 people reported missing in the cloudburst aftermath, that directly affected at least 9000 people. These images were shot on assignment for the AP (Associated Press)
